44

Hello, October 3rd. We meet again.

Recently I read an article that says human beings age at a molecular level in two accelerated bursts. First at the age of 44, and then again at 60. Oh shit……

But somehow I feel that my first burst already occurred when I was 40 years old. Are the scientists correct? Is it always 44 years old? Do some people experience their first burst earlier? OR maybe what happened 4 years ago wasn’t the first burst and mine is coming soon. *HORROR*

I feel that I’ve already crossed the halfway mark of my life. And sometimes I can’t help but dream about the movies they won’t make of me when I’m dead. Sometimes I feel that I should do something different for the rest of my life. Do something that people will remember when I’m gone.

Nowadays I’m starting to be more concerned about my health. I’m very fortunate to be healthy despite not taking good care of this body. But I think my luck will run out eventually. Need to do more to keep this 44 years old body healthy. Going to the gym often is a good start although I’ve been slacking lately. Need to find the motivation again.

But that’s for another day. Right now, I just want to chill and relax. Enjoy the next few days before I start working hard again.

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don’t they stay young?

Oh no, GoPro is in trouble.

I like GoPro. There is something special about the GoPro and their ecosystem that makes me love their camera. But lately there are a few new challengers. DJI is coming in strong in the action camera market. Insta360 is also putting the pressure on GoPro.

So GoPro released their new GoPro 13. Nothing fancy. Incremental upgrades (just like most tech products nowadays). The Lens Mods looks interesting but I can’t help but wonder if they are going to be compatible with future GoPro models.

Then DJI released their updated action camera, the DJI Action 5 Pro. And I can’t help but feel that GoPro is in serious trouble. Just look at this review.

Let’s hope GoPro have something up their sleeves to counter this.

I remember playing this game call Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? on PC when I was young. Well, Carmen Sandiego is coming to Nintendo Switch early 2025.

I don’t really remember much about the game. All I remember is going different places around the world to solve mystery. And looks like Singapore will be featured in the game too.

It’s September. This means that Apple is going to announce a new iPhone soon.

The Apple event will take place on 10 September 2024, 1 am Singapore time. Expect to see new iPhones and also lots of mentions on AI. Which in this case is Apple Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence. But they are basically the same.

There’s also rumour that Apple will announce new Apple Watch and AirPods.

Happy 59th Birthday Singapore

Today is Singapore’s 59th birthday. Many people don’t realise that Singapore is perhaps the only country in modern day history to be forced to be independent. I’m always fascinated by the story behind Singapore’s independence. The last few days leading to Singapore being expelled from Malaysia. One thing that I find interesting is the Proclamation of Singapore document.

The Proclamation of Singapore was signed by the then Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew on 9 August 1965 to formally declare Singapore becoming an independent and sovereign nation separate and independent of Malaysia. The Proclamation was read over Radio Singapura on 9 August 1965 at 10 am. Only the recording of the original Malay announcement remains.

Singapore shall forever be a sovereign democratic and independent nation, founded upon the principles of liberty and justice and ever seeking the welfare and happiness of her people in a more just and equal society.

The Proclamation of Singapore is perhaps the most important document in Singapore’s history. It signifies that Singapore is an independent country. Yet it was printed on a plain piece of paper with staples and filling holes. It’s an interesting story that I feel more people should know about.

The Proclamation of Singapore used to be on display at the National Gallery Singapore but it’s no longer there. I guess it is kept at the National Archives of Singapore. Hopefully, it will be on display again soon.

Marvel is desperate……

I guess nobody has Robert Downey Jr. is Doctor Doom in their 2024 Bingo card. The internet is filled with fans’ reactions to this news. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of this announcement. RDJ is and will always be Iron Man to a lot of fans. It’s hard to see him as a villain in the same universe.

But I’m not going to say no to this. It really depends on how they execute the story. I’m hoping they don’t screw it up like how they screw up almost every Marvel movie after Endgame. Let’s hope this is a good call and will bring us more amazing movies.

PS: If you haven’t, do check out Deadpool & Wolverine.

Singapore aims to provide at least half a million homes with 10 Gbps fixed broadband services by 2028 with all the major internet service providers upgrading their network. With the help of the $100 million grant by IMDA, consumers can expect more competitive, higher-speed service offers with new home networking equipment like routers.

While we still don’t have any use case for 10 Gbps internet, there is no harm in getting the network ready so that we can utilize it when the use case comes along.

PS: I know the image above doesn’t make sense as some of the landmarks are in the wrong place. But that’s what ChatGPT think future Singapore looks like with high speed internet.

Samsung had their Galaxy Unpacked event a few days ago and one product that caught my attention is the Samsung Galaxy Ring.

I know this is not the first smart ring. But coming from Samsung means that the smart ring will hit the mass market soon. Personally, I feel that this is a new product line worth watching. Sometimes I don’t feel like wearing my smartwatch or need to wear a formal one. A smart ring means that my vital stats will still be tracked even when I’m not wearing my smartwatch.

And I’m sure we will see more phone manufacturers releasing their smart rings soon.

The Galaxy Ring will launch in the US on 24 July 2024 for US$399.99. Strangely, there is no release date for Singapore yet.
