Steve Jobs iPhone announcement in 2007

“Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything …”

The first iPhone was announced 18 years ago. It’s quite interesting to rewatch the announcement now. A lot of things that we took for granted now was actually announced during that Keynote. Things like accelerometer and multi-touch gestures like pinch to zoom.

How to change your Singpass ID

Unknown to many people, there is actually an option to change your Singpass ID. By default, your NRIC is your Singpass ID. But you can change it via the Singpass Portal.

Alternatively, you can also change it via your Singpass app. Click on the settings button on the top right hand corner. Select “Update Account Details”. You will be redirected to an external browser where you have the option to change Singpass ID.

Do note that the Singpass ID should contain 6 to 20 alphanumeric characters and it should not follow the NRIC format.

I’m surprised when I saw the news from parliament regarding this. Not many people know that you can change your Singpass ID. It was not widely publicised. And this is not a new feature. In fact, I found an article from 2018 saying that most people did not change their Singpass ID.

Personally, I don’t see the need to change my Singpass ID. Even if someone knows my NRIC number, they still need my password and handphone for the OTP. But it is good that we have the option to change it if required.

Resolution 2025

I said I wanted to try blogging more in 2024. I started a “Nobody Blogs Anymore” series with the intention of posting more. It works and I managed to post 25 Nobody Blogs Anymore post and another 10 blog entries on other topics. That’s not bad compared to what I’ve been doing on this blog for the past few years. Although I didn’t call it a resolution for 2024, I guess it considered one.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been thinking if I want to do a resolution for 2025. I guess no harm in trying.

Here are some of the things that I have in mind. Ranked from the easiest to the hardest.

Resolution #1: I’ll continue the weekly blogging. But I’ll stop calling it “Nobody Blogs Anymore”. It’s horrible for SEO.

Resolution #2: I’ll try to allocate at least an hour every week to reading a book. This might come as a shock to people who knows me well cause I hate reading. I’ve already got the first book to kick start this. Will talk more about that book next time.

Resolution #3: I’ve always been thinking of doing video. Vlogging to be exact. In fact I’ve attempted several times in the past but failed. This year I think I want to do it again. Let’s hope I’ll finally take the first step forward.

I’m not sure if I can pull them off. But let’s see. Come 2025. Let’s do this.

Free Apple TV+ for the first weekend of 2025

Apple announced that Apple TV+ will be available for free from 4 January to 5 January 2025. This is the first time that Apple offered the streaming service for free to everyone.

You can watch Apple TV+ on the Apple TV app which can be downloaded to your Apple devices from the App Store. Apple TV app is also available on the Google Play Store and popular smart TVs. You can also watch it online via Apple TV website.

Auld Lang Syne

And with that, the 2024 season comes to an end.

Congrats! You survived another year. Somehow I’m not feeling the New Year Eve vibes. Today doesn’t feel like the last day of the year. It felt like just another day. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll only feel the NYE mood when the countdown begins.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what to do for 2025. I’ll be turning 45. Somehow 45 seems like a big milestone. For some weird reasons, I’ve decided to come up with a few New Year Resolutions. I don’t know. Is this some mid life crisis or something? Anyway, I’ll talk more about the New Year Resolutions later. For now, let’s chill and wait for 2025 to slowly crawl in.

Happy New Year.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne
We’ll tak’ a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Nobody Blogs Anymore #26

Recently I came across this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson that resonated with me.

To Laugh Often And Much

To laugh often and much;

to win the respect of the intelligent people

and the affection of children;

to earn the appreciation of honest critics

and endure the betrayal of false friends;

to appreciate beauty;

to find the best in others;

to leave the world a bit better

whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;

to know that one life has breathed easier

because you lived here.

This is to have succeeded.

PS: Although this poem is often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, there were some articles claiming that it wasn’t written by him.
