HORI Piranha Plant Camera for Nintendo Switch 2

We are still more than 50 days away from the Nintendo Switch 2 launch and companies are already announcing their accessories for the new console. One interesting accessory that caught my eyes is the HORI Piranha Plant Camera.

Cute right? Looks so much better than the official camera from Nintendo. Think this camera is going to be a great addition to your Nintendo Switch 2.

However, do note that this camera is only 480p resolution. Your friends will most likely notice the difference when everyone else is using the 1080p official Nintendo camera. But how could you say no to such a cute camera?

Gibberlink – an efficient way for AI chatbots to communicate

Something interesting emerged from the recent ElevenLabs London Hackathon. Developers Boris Starkov and Anton Pidkuiko unveiled a protocol enabling AI voice assistants to communicate efficiently using a sound-based communication mode called Gibberlink. The approach not only conserves computational resources but also exemplifies the potential for AI systems to optimize their communications autonomously, paving the way for more efficient machine-to-machine interactions in the future.

Don’t worry. The AI chatbots haven’t invented any secret language that human can’t understand. They are utilising GGWave, an open-source data-over-sound communication library that enables the transmission of small amounts of data using modulated sound wave.

But maybe we should have an app to decode GGWave so that we can eavesdrop on the AI chatbots. Just in case they are plotting something against us.

OPPO Find N5

OPPO just announced their new foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N5.

The Find N5 is just 8.93mm when folded and only 4.21mm when unfolded. It is so thin that it can barely fit the USB Type C port. And it weighs just 229 grams. The screen size is 6.62″ when folded and 8.12″ when unfolded.

The OPPO Find N5 retails at S$2499. However, if you preorder from now till 27 Feb 2025, you will get a $300 off and $575 worth of gifts.

Apple just announced the iPhone 16e, an entry level iPhone.

Despite being an entry level iPhone, the iPhone 16e is built for Apple Intelligence with the A18 chip. It is also the first iPhone to use Apple’s own C1 modem. Apple claims that the modem is power efficient and will enables the iPhone 16e to achieve battery life of up to 26 hours. That’s pretty impressive.

The iPhone 16e comes with a 48MP Fusion camera with an integrated 2x Telephoto. Strangely, the iPhone 16e does not comes with MagSafe but there is still wireless charging.

iPhone 16e will be available in two matte finishes – black and white. 128GB version will retail at S$949. Pre-orders begin 21 February 2025, 9pm Singapore time, with availability starting 28 February 2025.

Nintendo Switch 2 coming in 2025

Nintendo just released the first look for the Switch 2, the successor to the Nintendo Switch.

Not much details are available as of now. From the video, we can tell that there will be a bigger screen with new Joy-Cons that seems to be attached to the Switch 2 using magnets. There is a new button below the home button. Not sure what exactly is that button for.

And perhaps the biggest news is that the Nintendo Switch 2 is backwards compatible and able to play Nintendo Switch games. However, they do have a disclaimer saying that certain Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible. I’m guessing they are referring to games like Labo and Ring Fit Adventure. We will have more details at a later date.

More information will be available on 2 April 2025 during the Nintendo Direct. Nintendo will also hold Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events for consumers to try out the Nintendo Switch 2. Unfortunately, Singapore is not one of the countries.

Coming in 2025. Stay tuned.
