Auld Lang Syne

And with that, the 2024 season comes to an end.

Congrats! You survived another year. Somehow I’m not feeling the New Year Eve vibes. Today doesn’t feel like the last day of the year. It felt like just another day. I don’t know. Maybe I’ll only feel the NYE mood when the countdown begins.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what to do for 2025. I’ll be turning 45. Somehow 45 seems like a big milestone. For some weird reasons, I’ve decided to come up with a few New Year Resolutions. I don’t know. Is this some mid life crisis or something? Anyway, I’ll talk more about the New Year Resolutions later. For now, let’s chill and wait for 2025 to slowly crawl in.

Happy New Year.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne
We’ll tak’ a cup o’ kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

Recently I came across this poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson that resonated with me.

To Laugh Often And Much

To laugh often and much;

to win the respect of the intelligent people

and the affection of children;

to earn the appreciation of honest critics

and endure the betrayal of false friends;

to appreciate beauty;

to find the best in others;

to leave the world a bit better

whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch,
or a redeemed social condition;

to know that one life has breathed easier

because you lived here.

This is to have succeeded.

PS: Although this poem is often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson, there were some articles claiming that it wasn’t written by him.
